NPTC Students Earn CPR, PCA Certifications

Hot Springs, Arkansas – 53 National Park Technology Center (NPTC) students earned their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, and 36 students received their Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification during the spring semester. Students from high schools in Garland, Pike and Montgomery counties are eligible to attend the technology center during their junior and senior years. As part of the curriculum for the course, Health Science Technology Education (HSTE) students have the opportunity to receive their CPR certification through the American Heart Association. To meet the standards for this certification, students are required to complete a seven-hour course and demonstrate proficiency in performing chest compressions and breaths, automatic external defibrillator (AED) and first aid training. A CPR certification is a requirement when working as a health care provider in any capacity.

Visual and Media Arts Hosts Summer Shorts Film Festival

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) student Film Group of the Visual and Media Arts Department will host a Summer Shorts Film Festival for young filmmakers June 28 and 29 on the NPC campus. The festival is open to students currently attending area colleges and high schools. Cash prizes of $500 will be awarded for the best picture in both the college and high school categories. Second place films in each category will be awarded $250, and third place films will receive $100.

NPC Announces Spring President’s, Dean’s Lists

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Office of Student Affairs released the Dean’s list and President’s list for the spring 2016 semester. 249 students were named to the Dean’s list and 242 students were named to the President’s list. Students on the Dean’s list must maintain a minimum of a 3.25 semester GPA and a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Students on the President’s list must maintain a minimum of a 3.6 semester GPA and a 3.6 cumulative GPA.

NPC Approves Budget, Launches np.edu

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, May 25. Items for report included the budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year and unveiling of the new website, www.np.edu. Testing Center Director, Suzy Still was recognized for the NPC Testing Center’s recent certification award from the National College Testing Association (NCTA). The Center is the fifth in the state to receive national certification by the National College Testing Association. Certification status acknowledges adherence to best practices in the testing industry, adds to the center’s validity for prospective distance learning students, vendors, and other organizations, and certifies that our test center operates under the highest accepted standards and practices for all types of testing.

Testing Center Receives NCTA Certification

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Testing Center was awarded the National College Testing Association (NCTA) Test Center Certification this month. Earning NCTA certification acknowledges NPC’s Testing Center adheres to best practices in the testing industry. The Center strives to provide quality in the administration of testing services and programs and improve testing processes and service to students and examinees. There are only four other college and university testing centers NCTA certified in the state of Arkansas. NPC is the fifth college testing center to receive this recognition since the certification program began in 2010.

NPC Student Government Hosts Passing the Gavel Ceremony

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Student Government Association hosted a Passing the Gavel Ceremony last week. The 2015-2016 officer team was recognized for their accomplishments and seven new officers were installed in their respective offices for 2016-2017. The outgoing officer team shared a list of activities and accomplishments for the past year. Highlights included a visit with Governor Asa Hutchinson, Car Show scholarship fundraiser, Smash the Bias Student Diversity Activity, establishing a professional clothes closet for students, and the purchase of campus monitors for student announcements.

Welding Service Project Benefits VA Clinic

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Students in the National Park College (NPC) Welding program designed and fabricated an iron bench that they donated to the Central Arkansas Veteran’s Health Care System’s (CAVHS) Hot Springs Community Based Outpatient Clinic. A dedication ceremony was held today. Dr. John Hogan introduced Michael Dobbs, Chief of Voluntary Services for CAVHS. Also in attendance was Anita Deason, Military and Veteran Services Representative for Senator John Boozman; Courtland Sykes, Military and Veteran Services Representative for Congressman Bruce Westerman; Judge Rick Davis, Senator Bill Sample; Stanley Bee, Veteran Services Officer for Garland County, and representatives from the Hot Springs Village VFW Post 10483. Welding Bench DedicationStudent artists, Casey White and Chris Smith shared how they designed and fabricated the bench as part of their required service-learning project this semester in their Welding Layout and Fabrication course. The students used gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to complete the project, which required more than 100 hours of labor. The bench was created using welds to look like wooden logs and branches. An American flag waves across the seat back. Each line was individually welded then flattened with a grinder to create the wood grain. To create the depth of the grain, the artists used several layers of different paint shades.

SGA Hosts Final Exam Slam

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Student Government Association hosted the second annual Final Exam Slam: Staff versus Students basketball game April 29. 3 Point Contest StudentLast year the students beat the faculty and staff 75-30 in a grueling 40-minute battle. This year the faculty and staff team won 53-46 with help from student tutor, Matt Lim and student Pierre Adair. Division Chair, Chris Coble coached the faculty and staff team and SGA President, Roger Powell coached the student team. Intramurals coordinator, Bob Kissire and Dean of Enrollment Services, Jason Hudnell officiated.
