NPC Dedicates Legacy Hall to Commemorate Campus History

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) hosted a building dedication for the newly named Legacy Hall Thursday. Past presidents of National Park College, Garland County Community College, directors of Quapaw Technical Institute, and Board of Trustees members were invited to recognize the legacy of their leadership. The College unveiled new signage on the front of the building, formerly the Math and Sciences Building. Inside the building, a tribute wall showcased past board members and presidents commemorating their service to the campus and the community. A similar display will be installed to honor faculty and staff at a later date.

2nd Fiber Optics Technician Training to Begin at NPC

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) partnered with BDI DataLynk in the spring to offer industry recognized, Fiber Optic Association (FOA) sanctioned, fiber optics networking courses. Fiber optics networking is a highly technical, hands-on field that is forecasted to experience high growth through 2022. Employment opportunities could include jobs in the cable, satellite television, or phone industries. The second series of courses will begin November 14, and can be completed in one week. Industry certifications are awarded with the completion of each course. Instructor, Bob Ballard is a Vietnam veteran and a FOA certified master instructor.

Engineering Students Learn Arduino Coding

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) students in Paula Welch’s Introduction to Engineering class used SparkFun ® Arduino circuit kits to learn interactive programming. Students were able to wire circuits to drive a small motor, project slogans on an LCD monitor and make a fan touch sensitive. NPC, Garland County Farm Bureau Host State and Local Candidate Debate

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Student Government Association and the Garland County Farm Bureau (GCFB) will host a State and Local Candidate Debate Tuesday, October 25. All state and local candidates seeking public office have been invited to participate. Dick Antoine, host of the KZNG-AM 1340 morning show, “Talk of the Town” will moderate the event. The debate panel will include Dr. Charles Argo, Social Sciences Division Chair, Michelle Godwin, SGA President, Tommy Sorrells, GCFB President, and Corey Alderdice, Director of the Arkansas School for Math, Science, and the Arts.

Hawthorne Scholarship Changes Lives

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Four National Park College (NPC) students received the Bob and Doris Hawthorne Scholarship this semester. The $1250 scholarship was awarded to Cristian Navarrete, Katherine Hardister, Jamie Lynn and Alyssa Clayton. The Hawthornes are passionate about giving back to the Hot Springs community and have chosen to do that by helping students who want to improve their lives with education. They established an endowment in 2009 and have since awarded over 20 scholarships worth approximately $30,000 to NPC students. Director of Development, Sara Brown said, “I first met the Hawthornes when they were looking for ways to help students in our area. They adopted Hot Springs and the surrounding area as their home. They love Hot Springs and were so excited to help make that extra difference that our students often need to be successful. They stated that they wanted to provide help in the region in which they live and help ‘those who want to go further’.”

Over 600 Local Students Participate in Manufacturing Day at NPC

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) hosted over 600 students from area school districts today as part of a nationwide initiative for Manufacturing Day. Participating schools included Lakeside, Lake Hamilton, Fountain Lake, Mountain Pine, Jessieville and Hot Springs. NPC organized on campus tours, visits to local industries, and hosted a trade show for students to connect with manufacturing through hands-on experiences. Post-Secondary program tours included welding, aerospace and industrial technology. Students who visited the welding department received hands-on practice with a virtual welding machine. The Aerospace tour included demonstrations of how airplane parts are made from fiberglass, graphite, honeycomb cores, and structural rivets. The industrial technology lab provided students hands-on experiences with hydraulics, motor controls, and gear trains.

NPTC Announces HOSA Officer Elections

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The Health Science Technology Education program at National Park Technical Center (NPTC) announced the election of officers for the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). The election was held Friday, September 23. Students enrolled in the HSTE program come to the college from area high schools to take classes which can lead to a career in the medical field. Students have the opportunity to schedule classes at NPTC during three time slots throughout the day during their junior and senior years. Officers were selected for each NPTC section.

Arkansas Community Colleges Hosts Annual Conference in Hot Springs

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) will host the 28th Annual Conference October 9-11 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The opening general session begins Sunday, October 9 at 4 p.m. in Horner Hall with a “Going for Gold” theme. Outstanding faculty and staff honorees from each two- year college will be recognized Monday, October 10 during a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in Horner Hall. Gray Swoope, President & CEO of VisionFirst Advisors will provide the keynote address. National Park College (NPC) Director of Radiologic Technology, Debra Wilson and Veteran Services Coordinator, Nathan Looper will accept awards for outstanding faculty and staff.

Zookeeper Visits Biology Class

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) students in Darlene Gentles’ Biology class welcomed NPC alumnus, Summer Holt to class Wednesday. Holt is a zookeeper at the Little Rock Zoo. She spoke about the differences between reptiles and amphibians and introduced the class to animal guests, Dakota, an umbrella cockatoo, Daddy, a sunglow boa, Salem, a small boa, and salamanders. Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will host a building dedication for the newly named Legacy Hall Thursday, October 13 at 4 p.m. A special invitation was sent to past presidents of National Park College, directors of Quapaw Technical Institute, and Board of Trustee members to recognize the legacy of their leadership. All faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of NPC are invited to attend. A reception will follow. The College will unveil new signage on the front of the building, formerly the Math and Sciences Building. A tribute wall will showcase past Board members and presidents commemorating their service to the campus and the community. A similar display will be installed to honor faculty and staff at a later date.
