Adult Ed Center Graduates 12 GED Students At Detention Center

National Park College (NPC) Adult Education Center hosted the fifth graduation at the Garland County Detention Center this week. A record number of 12 students earned their diploma.

Lieutenant Russell Severns gave an invocation and benediction. Adult Education Director, Bill Ritter, Chief Steven Elrod, Sheriff Mike McCormick, Undersheriff Jason Lawrence, and Captain Belinda Cosgrove addressed the graduates.

Ritter said, "12 Graduates is a record number to participate in a GED ceremony at the Detention Center, and we have had many ceremonies for the GED graduates here. The number of graduations we have had and the number of graduates we have today really speaks well of what inmates are accomplishing in the detention center.”

He turned to the graduates saying, “We are proud of your accomplishments and we celebrate with you today. You have earned the right to always be proud of completing your high school education."

Ten graduates lined up in a single file line, in their cap and gowns for a photo.“Most importantly, I want you to know and believe in your heart that this does not have to be your last great accomplishment. Once you are released from this facility, you have the opportunity to start again. Now you have a diploma, and your world will be what you make of it,” he added.

Graduates pictured left to right included Roy Beasley, Akeejae Bryant, Edward Clark, Chance Coleman, Wayne Corner, Kenny Gibson, Marcus Jackson, Bryan Quinonez, Charles Smith, and Frank Watkins. Dillon Ellis and Michael Golden are not pictured.
