NPC Coordinates County-Wide Manufacturing Day Event

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) is coordinating a series of events on Manufacturing Day October 7. Seven area manufacturing companies and suppliers are providing industry tours, guest speakers, and participating in NPC campus events. Five local public schools have registered to participate with more than 600 students. Manufacturing Day is part of a nationwide initiative from partner organizations trying to correct common misconceptions about manufacturing and recruit younger workers into high-wage and high-demand manufacturing careers.

NPC Board Discusses Increased Enrollment, New Measurements for Success

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 28. Items for report included increased student enrollment and updates to the campus’ high priority objectives. The Board welcomed new hires, Melinda Goldberg Institutional Services Assistant, and Tim Jackson, Clinical Coordinator for the Emergency Medical Services program. The Board approved updated measurements for success. The campus’ high priority objectives include increasing student persistence, workforce development contact hours, persistence and completion of underserved students, fall enrollment, fundraising, transfer students, and reducing administrative expenses.

New Start For Choir, Art Programs

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) choir and art programs have embraced a new start this semester with two new faculty members. Dr. Ferris Allen, Director of Music Programs, and Lana Taliaferro, Art Faculty, began teaching in August. Taliaferro attended NPC before transferring to Henderson State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. She has a master’s of Fine Art from Vermont College of Fine Art. She is a licensed art education teacher and has worked as an instructor for Hot Springs School District, Benton School District and Henderson State University. Her art has been featured in galleries and exhibits across the state. Her most recent work has been shown at The Blue Rock Studio. Her accolades include the G. Roy Levin/Jessica Lutz Merit Prize, Vermont College of Fine Arts Merit Scholarship, and the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, among others.

SPSFGC Awards 19 Scholarships

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) hosted a reception for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County (SPSFGC) Thursday evening. The Single Parent Scholarship Fund was established in 1990. Their mission is to enable single parents to attain self-sufficiency through post-secondary education. Recipients and their families were invited to attend. Dr. John Hogan presented opening remarks and several students shared their stories. The committee approved 19 students to receive scholarship awards totaling $14,000.

NPC Reveals Three Mascot Finalists

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) announced the three finalists for mascot this week in conjunction with Spirit Week activities. The final three mascot concepts were selected from the top 10 by members of the Student Government Association and administration. Graphic artist, Cari Elliott prepared concept boards for the audience using references from other school mascots. She explained how each idea could be represented graphically.

SPSFGC Hosts Reception for Scholarship Recipients

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will host a scholarship reception for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County (SPSFGC) Thursday, September 15 at 5 p.m. in the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences. Keynote speaker for the event will be Lataschya Harris, NPC Career Pathways Director. SPSFGC Chair, Carla Mouton will also address the crowd. Nineteen students will receive scholarship awards. Students enrolled in college full time will receive $750. Part time students will receive $500.

New ADHE Director, Dr. Maria Markham Visits NPC

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) welcomed newly selected Director of the Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE), Dr. Maria Markham Wednesday during an informal reception. Dr. Markham has toured many campuses across the state over the past few weeks. She said, “I appreciate the warm welcome I have received from everyone. I have enjoyed learning more about the unique missions of our state’s colleges and universities and look forward to working with each of them to improve student success and degree attainment. I am proud of the work National Park College is doing to meet that goal.” Dr. Markham met with campus employees and student leaders in the board room of the Fisher Campus Center and then toured the marine technology and welding programs.

New ADHE Director Visits NPC

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Dr. Maria Markham, newly selected Director of the Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE) will visit National Park College (NPC) Wednesday, September 7.  Dr. Markham will meet with campus employees and student leaders beginning at 2 p.m. in the boardroom of the Fisher building followed by a campus tour.

NPC Reveals Top Ten Mascot Selections

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) announced the top 10 mascot selections Friday. The top 10 mascot concepts were selected from more than 160 submissions. The mascot selection team included representatives from faculty, staff, students and the community. The team looked for concepts that reflected NPC's brand personality, considered the culture and history of both the college and community, could be easily represented in print, online and in college materials, and were accompanied by a name and costume idea. Nearly 50 percent of the total submissions were from students, 23 percent from faculty and staff, 15 percent from community members, and the remainder from alumni and other categories.
