Hospitality and Tourism Instructor Earns Certification

Hospitality and Tourism Administration Instructor, Eve Baum Victory, was certified by the American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute (AHLEI) as a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE). Internationally recognized as the premier source for delivering quality hospitality education, AHLEI awards the CHE designation to instructors who demonstrate knowledge and experience, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standard of competence as a hospitality professional. David Hughes, Dean of Business, Technical and Early College Programs, said that Eve has been integral to evolving NPC’s Hospitality and Tourism curriculum into a robust and competitive program of study. “Attaining the CHE certification will surely be the first of many professional milestones for Eve,” Hughes stated. Originally from New York City, Eve Baum Victory holds a Bachelor of Arts degree which she used to pursue a career in marketing communications and event planning. Working on both coasts, she has been responsible for rebranding and developing customer communication strategies for multiple companies as well as managing million dollar tradeshow and meeting budgets.

Engineering Students Learn Arduino Coding

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) students in Paula Welch’s Introduction to Engineering class used SparkFun ® Arduino circuit kits to learn interactive programming. Students were able to wire circuits to drive a small motor, project slogans on an LCD monitor and make a fan touch sensitive. NPC, Garland County Farm Bureau Host State and Local Candidate Debate

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Student Government Association and the Garland County Farm Bureau (GCFB) will host a State and Local Candidate Debate Tuesday, October 25. All state and local candidates seeking public office have been invited to participate. Dick Antoine, host of the KZNG-AM 1340 morning show, “Talk of the Town” will moderate the event. The debate panel will include Dr. Charles Argo, Social Sciences Division Chair, Michelle Godwin, SGA President, Tommy Sorrells, GCFB President, and Corey Alderdice, Director of the Arkansas School for Math, Science, and the Arts.

NPTC Announces HOSA Officer Elections

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The Health Science Technology Education program at National Park Technical Center (NPTC) announced the election of officers for the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). The election was held Friday, September 23. Students enrolled in the HSTE program come to the college from area high schools to take classes which can lead to a career in the medical field. Students have the opportunity to schedule classes at NPTC during three time slots throughout the day during their junior and senior years. Officers were selected for each NPTC section.

Zookeeper Visits Biology Class

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) students in Darlene Gentles’ Biology class welcomed NPC alumnus, Summer Holt to class Wednesday. Holt is a zookeeper at the Little Rock Zoo. She spoke about the differences between reptiles and amphibians and introduced the class to animal guests, Dakota, an umbrella cockatoo, Daddy, a sunglow boa, Salem, a small boa, and salamanders. Habitat for Humanity volunteers

NPTC Engineering Students Visit Habitat House

October 3, 2016

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park Technology Center (NPTC) Pre-engineering students visited a Habitat for Humanity jobsite last week so students could learn how houses are constructed. The Civil Engineering and Architecture class is working on a project that requires each student to design a house which meets the Habitat for Humanity criteria using industry standard architectural design software. The students will perform mock interactions with clients and criteria will be refined based on the client’s hypothetical needs.

Choir Scholarship Auditions

Every semester, over $10,000 in scholarships are awarded to singers in NPC's two choirs: National Park Singers and the Soundwaves. Auditions for scholarships and admission to the ensembles will be held Friday, August 26, from 11:30-12:30 and from 1:00-3:00 PM in CR 100. To make an audition appointment, e-mail Dr. Ferris Allen, ferris.allen@np.edu. National Park Singers rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00-12:20. Soundwaves rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00-12:20.

Kelly Pickett Attends Teaching with Technology Symposium

Kelly Pickett, Life Science Instructor for the Math/Science Division attended the 10th Annual Teaching with Technology Symposium July 21-22, 2016 at UAMS. This state-wide symposium is offered to educators, administrators, librarians, instructional and curriculum designers, and others using technology in higher education. “This symposium was a great opportunity to see how other colleges are implementing innovative technology in order to engage students,” stated Kelly Pickett. “I look forward to incorporating what I learned about team based learning, collaboration, and instructional technology to my online and traditional classes at National Park College.” Kelly teaches online Anatomy and Physiology courses at National Park College and is currently working on Quality Matters certification for her courses.

Rebekah Robinette has received Quality Matters (QM) recognition

Rebekah Robinette has received Quality Matters (QM) recognition for her online BIOL 2244, Microbiology, course. Rebekah has the distinction of being one of only two faculty member to ever receive QM recognition at NPC. This accomplishment shows Rebekah has spent a lot of time and thought in developing a strong course. Quality Matters focuses on course design—making sure learning objectives, assessments and measures, and instructional materials are all in alignment while designing an interactive/engaging course for students using the appropriate technology.
