NPTC Launches New Mobile Apps Program

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park Technology Center (NPTC) will launch a new Mobile Application Development (MAD) program for high school juniors and seniors this fall. The program was approved by the Arkansas Department of Career Education last spring and will include courses in mobile application design and development for both Android and iOS, syntax, algorithms and the use of APIs. MAD coursework is entirely project based and team oriented with strong focus on internships and collaboration with business and industry partners.

Pharmacy Tech Program Graduates 19

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Pharmacy Technician Program will host a recognition ceremony July 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Southside Student Center. Nineteen students began the program March 29 and will be recognized for completion of their 80-hour classroom training for pharmacy technician. Graduates include, Collene Atchley, Lauren Black, Kevin Bunch, Jean Carpenter, Jennifer Diaz, Richard Dunlap, Brandie Elledge, Katelyn Hunter, Jane Kowalkowski, Amanda Long, Amber Merritt, Briana Sport, Lorra Stinson, Melissa Stone, Dustin Tart, Jayme Vaughn, Melanie Wilder, Patricia Wright, and Jonathan Wykoff.

NPTC Students Attend HOSA International Leadership Conference

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Eight National Park Technology Center (NPTC) Health Science Technology Education (HSTE) students attended the 39th Annual Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, June 22-26. Students qualified for the conference by competing and winning their event at the state conference in March. Approximately 10,500 students attended the national conference. HOSA affiliations are in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Mexico, American Samoa, Canada and the District of Columbia. Students were accompanied by Susan Kelly and HOSA advisor/HSTE instructor, Relda Steelman.

Radiologic Technology Program Honors 31st Graduating Class

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College’s (NPC) Radiographic Technology program hosted a pinning and awards ceremony Thursday for graduates. This class marks the 31st graduating class for the NPC Radiologic Technology program at NPC. Ten students were recognized for completion of the program, including: Angela Bridgewater, Meghan Buser, Desiree Carranza, Laney Gibson, Memory Jerrels, Amanda Marks, Yvette Martinez, Ana Rodriguez, Aimee Lopez-Salter and Alex Snyder. Class Valedictorian, Amanda Marks addressed the crowd saying she was thankful for the “amazing instructors, technologists and radiologists at our clinical sites.” Dr. Michael Hickman from Hot Springs Radiology Services serves as the program’s medical adviser. He spoke to the graduates about the difficulty of becoming a radiologic technologist, stating that only one in 1,000 individuals accomplish it. He shared this is the 100th anniversary of radiology in Arkansas. Hickman presented the M.R. Springer Award in honor of the program’s founder, along with a $500 scholarship to Amanda Marks for her high standard of practice, scholastic achievement and personal character. Marks plans to pursue radiation oncology and was selected as one of six students for the highly competitive CARTI Radiation Therapy program.

Visual and Media Arts Hosts Summer Shorts Film Festival

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) student Film Group of the Visual and Media Arts Department hosted a Summer Shorts Film Festival for young filmmakers Tuesday on the NPC campus. The festival featured students currently attending area colleges and high schools. Cash prizes of $500 were awarded for the best picture in both the college and high school categories. Second place films in each category were awarded $250, and third place films received $100.

Child Care Aware Receives Vroom Grant

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College’s (NPC) Child Care Aware of West Central Arkansas (CCAWCA) was selected as one of 10 sites in the United States to be a part of Child Care Aware® of America’s Vroom initiative. The Vroom initiative, sponsored by the Bezos Family Foundation, helps parents across the country promote brain development in children birth to 5 years old. Vroom provides interactive tools and resources in both Spanish and English that highlight the science behind early brain development, showing parents how they can turn activities like bath time and meal time into opportunities that build their children’s brains. The Daily Vroom app provides short activities that fit into a family’s daily routine and is free to download at www.joinvroom.org.

Adult Education Detention Center Graduates

Adult Education Hosts Third Detention Center Graduation

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Adult Education Center hosted its third graduation at the Garland County Detention Center (GCDC) Tuesday where six new graduates earned their GED® diploma. . The Adult Education Center began offering education programs in the detention center and the Garland County District Courts last July. Since then, they have helped more than 500 detention center students improve their basic education skills, including 18 students who earned a GED® diploma and 130 students who earned a WAGE™ certificate.

NPC Closed for Independence Day

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The College will resume normal business hours Tuesday, July 5.

Advisors Serve At HOBY Conference

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) advisors attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference last weekend at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Advisors Chelsea Lairamore, Nathan Looper, Josh Ramirez, and Stephanie Rizzo helped facilitate the event as part of the south Arkansas region. The HOBY curriculum emphasizes personal, group, and societal leadership. Dean of Enrollment, Jason Hudnell presented a session on group leadership at the conference. Students participated in discussion and activities related to leadership, service, and making a difference intended to introduce them to the idea of leadership for social change. The event included personality assessments, hands-on group projects, a global community perspectives exercise, and ended with Leadership in Action projects. HOBY participants dedicated over 150 hours of service to local libraries and the Boys and Girls Club in Magnolia, Arkansas.

NPC Hosts Kids College

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) hosted the annual Kid’s College summer camp this week. Students in grades six through eight participated in six different classes. The Up-Up and Away – Drone Education 101 class taught the basics of flying drones using drone models provided in part by the NPC Innovative Technologies Center (ITC).
