Hospitality Wins People’s Choice at Chocolate Festival

National Park College Hospitality and Tourism students won the People’s Choice award at the Cooperative Christian Ministries and Clinic (CCMC) Chocolate Festival. Students prepared more than 800 servings of Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Trifle for the event as part of the Restaurant and Event management course.

Math Science Division Hosts Lecture on Coral Reefs at Risk

National Park College Math and Science Division hosted the First Friday Lunch and Lecture last week. Dr. James Engman of Henderson State University presented Coral Reefs at Risk and Marine Biology Opportunities at Henderson State. Engman discussed the diverse ecological communities that make up the ocean’s reefs and noted a list of issues that impact them including, climate change, pH changes due to carbon dioxide concentrations, coastal development, overfishing, disease, hurricanes and tourists.

Organizations Partner to Host Safetalk Suicide Training

January 30, 2017

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) and the Garland County Suicide Prevention Coalition (GCSPC) will host safeTALK suicide training Friday, February 10 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Frederick Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences, room 119. LivingWorks’ safeTALK training is open to anyone over the age of 15 and requires no prior experience. The half day alertness training prepares attendees to become a suicide-alert helper, recognize pleas for help and take action by connecting to life-saving intervention resources.

Governor Asa Hutchinson announced the Southern Arkansas Regional Alliance (SARA) Wednesday between National Park College (NPC), College of the Ouachitas (COTO), and Henderson State University. The institutions collaborated to form the alliance in response to the Governor’s Closing the Gap 2020 master plan for higher education.

NPC Hosts Lean 101 Training for Airtech Supply

National Park College (NPC), Airtech Supply (Airtech), Inc. and Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions Group (AMS) received a “grow-your-own” grant from the Arkansas Department of Career Education’s Office of Skills Development (OSD) to offer a LEAN Transformation series of trainings for employees. The grant is the first of its kind to be awarded since the OSD was created.

Kolp Selected As December Student of the Month

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Fredrick Kolp was selected as the National Park College (NPC) December Student of the Month. He is completing his Associate of Science degree in Engineering and will transfer to Arkansas Tech University in January to work toward a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. “Fred’s personal strengths are as impressive as his aptitude in Math and Science. He is an active, outgoing presence in class with a great sense of humor,” said instructor, Paula Welch. “He is the perfect student to get a group project rolling, but also knows how to sit back and let others take the lead. His openness to feedback exemplifies his ability to be a lifelong learner, an asset that will continue to serve him well in college and beyond. Fred is one of the most driven and career focused students in the engineering program.”
