Arkansas Community Colleges Hosts Annual Conference in Hot Springs

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) will host the 28th Annual Conference October 9-11 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The opening general session begins Sunday, October 9 at 4 p.m. in Horner Hall with a “Going for Gold” theme. Outstanding faculty and staff honorees from each two- year college will be recognized Monday, October 10 during a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in Horner Hall. Gray Swoope, President & CEO of VisionFirst Advisors will provide the keynote address. National Park College (NPC) Director of Radiologic Technology, Debra Wilson and Veteran Services Coordinator, Nathan Looper will accept awards for outstanding faculty and staff.

NPC Dedicates Legacy Hall to Commemorate Campus History

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will host a building dedication for the newly named Legacy Hall Thursday, October 13 at 4 p.m. A special invitation was sent to past presidents of National Park College, directors of Quapaw Technical Institute, and Board of Trustee members to recognize the legacy of their leadership. All faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of NPC are invited to attend. A reception will follow. The College will unveil new signage on the front of the building, formerly the Math and Sciences Building. A tribute wall will showcase past Board members and presidents commemorating their service to the campus and the community. A similar display will be installed to honor faculty and staff at a later date.

SPSFGC Hosts Reception for Scholarship Recipients

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will host a scholarship reception for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County (SPSFGC) Thursday, September 15 at 5 p.m. in the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences. Keynote speaker for the event will be Lataschya Harris, NPC Career Pathways Director. SPSFGC Chair, Carla Mouton will also address the crowd. Nineteen students will receive scholarship awards. Students enrolled in college full time will receive $750. Part time students will receive $500.

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will host a Million Women Mentors event Wednesday, August 24 at 10 a.m. in the Eisele Auditorium of the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences at National Park College. Lt. Governor, Tim Griffin will give a keynote address about the importance of mentoring. The event is free and open to the public. Million Women Mentors is a nationwide movement to support the engagement of 1 million STEM mentors, both male and female, to mentor girls from school age to work age and help encourage them to persist and succeed in STEM programs and careers by the year 2019. Walmart is partnering with STEMConnector® and Lt. Governor, Tim Griffin, to launch the initiative in Arkansas.

NPC Hosts Young Manufacturers Academy

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College will host a Young Manufacturers Academy (YMA) August 1-5. This is the second annual event for YMA which will include 25 students in sixth through eighth grade. The weeklong academy is full of activities that introduce students to numerous career opportunities in the field of manufacturing. Highlights of the week will include a robotics activity at the Mid-America Science Museum, a Lean Manufacturing Event hosted by the Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions Group, a visit from the Be Pro Be Proud mobile unit, industry tours to Alliance Rubber and AirTech Supply, and a field trip to the Arkansas School for Math, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA). Student teams will deliver presentations about the week to their families and friends Friday, August 5 at 2 p.m. A complete schedule is attached.

Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences. The event is open to the public. Congressman Westerman plans to discuss policy issues related to poverty, economic growth and opportunity, and health care.

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Pharmacy Technician Program will host a recognition ceremony July 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Southside Student Center. Nineteen students began the program March 29 and will be recognized for completion of their 80-hour classroom training for pharmacy technician. Welding Students Donate Bench to VA Clinic

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Students in the National Park College (NPC) Welding program designed and fabricated an iron bench that they plan to donate to the Central Arkansas Veteran’s Health Care System’s (CAVHS) Hot Springs Community Based Outpatient Clinic. A dedication ceremony will take place at 177 Sawtooth Oak Street, Hot Springs, AR 71901, Tuesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Student artists, Casey White and Chris Smith designed and fabricated the bench as part of their required service-learning project this semester in their Welding Layout and Fabrication course. The students used gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to complete the project, which required more than 100 hours of labor.
