Robotics

Learn about many types of sensors, how they work and even make a few of your own. Gain experience programming and working with the Arduino micro-controller platform. Assemble a robot, test it, modify it, and then use it to complete various challenges.

Feature Filmmaking

Game Makers

Develop and design a new BOARD GAME from ideation through finalization. Students will learn Adobe Photoshop® as they work through the design process exploring branding, packaging, and advertising. Each day is filled with practical, hands-on design activities, technical demonstrations, and in-depth instruction. Foundation skills such as sketching, rendering, and prototyping are emphasized. We will go from product design to logo creation, product package design and printing, and finish with dynamic advertising for our GAMES.

A nonpartisan summer camp dedicated to three concepts.

  1. We the People Should Understand Our Government
  2. We the People Should Know the People Who Work in Our Government
  3. We the People Should Actively Participate in our Government

This camp is for leaders. Meet local leaders at every level of government and learn their secrets for success. Compete in staged political debates, mock trials, scavenger hunts, and other fast paced games that will hone your leadership skills. Only students recommended by their high school teachers are eligible to participate. Space is very limited.

Inside Engineering: Mission to Mars

Engineering camp provides an opportunity for students to explore the different fields of engineering even further through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities. In this “Mission to Mars” camp, students will identify the challenges involved with settling another planet. Participants will design, build, and test their ideas for rockets, biospheres, hydroponic gardening, water treatment, and more!

Engineering: Pollinator Extinction

In this camp, “Plight of the Bumblebees: Engineering Solutions to Pollinator Extinction, participants will have the opportunity to design, build, and test ideas for artificial pollinators, gardening strategies, bee-safe pesticides, and more! This camp includes a field trip to Garvan Woodland Gardens for participants to learn the importance of pollinators in our ecosystems.

Rockets

Fascinated with Space and what lies beyond our Earth? Join us for our Rocket Summer Camp where you can learn about, make and experiment with rockets. We will soar into the world of rocketry with hands on learning techniques and demonstrations. As a final project, learn how to construct a water bottle rocket launch pad and see how high you can make your customized water rocket fly with a height gauge you build yourself. We will start with the basic Laws of Motion and use those principals and more to design and optimize each of our rockets, including the rocket powered car. We will also delve into the different techniques scientists use to study the Universe beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.

Drones

Come on an adventure in the world of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (sUAV) or "Drones", while learning to fly one at the same time! We’ll practice basic flight skills and safety then move to drone racing and aerial photography. Fun flight activities will be blended with learning about drone technology, social and legal issues, plus business and career opportunities. Have fun and get in front of the next wave of technology. Drones provided for use during class. Camp will be held at Hot Springs Intermediate School Gymnasium.

Fiber Arts Camp

Students will learn 7 fun ways to dye fabrics in this week long camp. They will get to learn to techniques of Shibori, Resist & Batik, Ice Dying and traditional Tie Dying in different patterns. Each process will be done on a 12x12 fabric that students get to take home each day and at the end of the camp they will get to pick 2 of their favorites to design a t-shirt and pillowcase they get to take home and show off their new founded skills with.

 

 

Young Manufacturers Academy (YMA)

The Young Manufacturers Academy (YMA) introduces students entering grades 6-8, to all facets of the manufacturing industry, through hands-on activities and simulation-based learning, travel to industry locations for on-site interaction with manufacturers.

Pottery

Projects will consist of pinch pots, effigy pots, 6x6 tiles, and wind chimes. Students will be making and creating, loading and firing, and learning pit firing for their projects. Students get to keep all projects they complete. This is a MESSY camp, students will need to dress accordingly.

Nighthawk Basketball
