Personal and Community Safety Begins with Personal Responsibility

Whether you are a student or an employee, you must assume an active role in your own safety and the safety of the NPC Campus Community. Learn to be observant and aware of your surroundings. If you notice suspicious activity, observe a crime, or just see or hear something, make mental notes of the circumstances, descriptions, times, locations, etc. Then call Campus Security at extension 4293 or (501)760-4293 to report it. Call 9-1-1 if that works better. Just report it! Do not assume someone else may have reported it!

Students:

  • Think about how you might respond to different situations. The less vulnerable you appear to be, the less likely you might be the victim of a crime.
  • Never leave wallets, purses, laptop computers, PDA devices, cell phones, backpacks or books unattended. If they are stolen they are extremely difficult to recover.
  • Always lock your vehicle and never leave valuables inside the vehicle in plain sight. If attending night classes, try to park in well-lit areas. Have your car keys readily available and accessible when you return to your vehicle. Check front and back seats before opening the vehicle. If you feel unsafe walking back to your vehicle, call extension 4293 or (501)760-4293 and ask security to escort you. They will do that without hesitation!
  • Remember that when classes are in session, Security is on duty. Our Security is comprised of Garland County Sheriff’s Deputies. Call on us if you need us. (501)760-4293.
  • If you might be walking to school, avoid hitchhiking or accepting rides from strangers. Avoid deserted areas and always walk facing traffic.
  • If you have children, never leave them in lounges, foyer areas, labs, in your car, nor unattended on NPC. NPC does not have a childcare facility.
  • Get to know the Security employees at NPC, how to reach them, talk with them and share any concerns you may have about campus safety or security.
  • Know that you are each other’s eyes and ears. Take that responsibility seriously.
  • Keep your text and email accounts with NPC updated so you can be contacted for emergencies and other situations.

Employees:

  • Know your coworkers and be familiar with the people that should be in your area. Don’t be shy – question behavior or activity that seems unusual.
  • Be familiar with work safety policies and procedures.
  • Get to know the security employees at NPC, how to reach them, talk with them and share any concerns you may have about campus safety or security.
  • Develop an inter-office alert signal with coworkers so you can alert each other inconspicuously if one of you is in trouble.
  • Don’t loan your keys or codes to anyone.
  • Be careful giving out personal information, especially over the phone or internet.
  • If you might be working late, lock your exterior doors and be cautious of whom you let in. Leave your blinds open so security can see and check on you.
  • Report any safety-related issues right away.
  • Ask security to escort you if you are concerned for your safety – they will be glad to.
  • Get into the habit of locking your valuables in a desk drawer.
  • Know that you are each other’s eyes and ears. Take that responsibility seriously.

We want you to feel safe on the NPC Campus! Please do not hesitate to call NPC Safety/Security at the Campus Safety Office.
