Synopsis
Enhanced academic performance. Maximized access to athletic facilities, social, academic,
and psychological support. A greater sense of safety and belonging. Higher retention
rates. These are just a few of the wide-ranging benefits experienced by living on
campus. For these reasons, all student-athletes at NPC are required to live on campus.
Please note that exemption requests do not guarantee automatic approval and must be
accompanied by the appropriate documentation required to complete your request.
Exemptions
While we encourage all student-athletes to reap the above-mentioned benefits by living
on campus, we do realize that individual circumstances may result in the need for
exemption. A student may submit an exemption request with supportive documentation
to the Department of Residence Life. Students requesting an exemption to live at home
with a parent or legal guardian must use the documentation provided in the request
and it must be completed in full.
The following situations may be eligible for a standard exemption:
- The student will reside with a parent or legal guardian for the entire academic year
within a 35 mile radius of campus.
- The student is legally married.
- The student is the parent or legal guardian of a child.
If the Department of Residence Life is unable to grant a standard exemption based
on the supportive documentation submitted with the request, the request will be forwarded
to an inter-departmental appeals committee who will then evaluate the request.
Moreover, if a student feels that he or she qualifies for an exemption not listed
in the above standard exemptions, this student may submit a request for a special
exemption. The following conditions are examples of special exemptions:
The student requires special Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation that
is not available on campus.
Non-Compliance Fee
If an exemption request is not approved and the student-athlete continues to reside
off campus, the student-athlete will receive a non-compliance fee for each semester
during which the student is enrolled but out of compliance with the policy. This fee
is determined in accordance with the respective semester’s housing rate as it applies
to a double-occupancy room. As an example, this means that if a student has not been
approved to live off campus for the entire academic year, this student must pay the
non-compliance equivalence of two semesters of housing. This fee will be billed to
the student-athlete’s financial account.
Failure to comply with this policy by living on campus or otherwise seeking an exemption
will result in the non-compliance fee. It is imperative for all student-athletes to
apply for an on-campus space or seek an exemption.
