National Park College (NPC) announced the conclusion of Joyce Craft’s service as a member of the Board of Trustees. The campus celebrated her distinguished tenure during a reception in her honor prior to the regularly monthly meeting Wednesday.
Mrs. Craft's term ends this month, and Joel Newburn was elected to fill the position beginning in January.
A lifelong educator and champion for her community, Mrs. Craft has served on the NPC Board of Trustees since 2001, including the last two years as chair. Her leadership and dedication have been instrumental in the College’s growth and success.
“It has been a privilege to serve on this board since 2001 and as the chair these last two years,” said Craft. “Thank you for making my final meeting so memorable. Though I will no longer serve National Park College in an official capacity, I look forward to witnessing its continued growth, and I will always support our mission of student success.”
Mrs. Craft’s impact extends far beyond her tenure at NPC. She served as Superintendent of the Hot Springs School District from 2007 until her retirement, becoming the first woman and the first African American woman to hold the position. During her 44-year career in education, she touched the lives of over 10,000 students.
A tireless advocate for her community, Mrs. Craft is involved in numerous civic organizations, including the Hot Springs Housing Authority, the Hot Springs Public Facility Board of Directors, the Salvation Army, and the Literacy Council of Garland County. She is a founding member of the Hot Springs Women Leadership Council and the Christian Education Director of Roanoke Baptist Church.
“Joyce Craft exemplifies the ideal of a servant leader,” said Dr. Wade Derden, NPC President. “For over two decades now, she has served as a member of the National Park College Board of Trustees. When I consider the time and dedication that she has invested into the education of our community and region, I am filled with gratitude and no small amount of awe. Mrs. Craft, on behalf of the campus, we thank you sincerely for your many years of dedicated service to National Park College. In this time of thankfulness and giving, your service has been a gift to us.”
Mrs. Craft’s legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to education will continue to inspire the NPC community for years to come.
