National Park College (NPC) student Samara Bowman was voted the winner of the second
annual Earth Day T-Shirt Design Contest. T-shirts with her design were available for
attendees to tie dye during the Earth Day Celebration last week.
Bowman, a soon-to-be graduate of NPC’s Digital and Media Arts program, said, “My design
was created because I wanted to capture the essence of Earth Day while also spreading
a message about the importance of investing in our planet.”
“I think just having a background in graphic design and seeing this call to action
inspired me to create the T-shirt graphic. I also drew inspiration from the beauty
of nature itself, and I knew I wanted to incorporate the actual earth into my design,”
explained Bowman.
The announcement of her victory brought Bowman a wave of emotions. “When I found out
I won the T-shirt design contest, I was honestly filled with gratitude and excitement.
It feels very rewarding to see my design recognized and celebrated. Knowing that my
design will be worn by people around campus fills me with a sense of pride,” Bowman
stated.
Bowman extended her thanks to the voters who supported her design and expressed hope
that it would serve as a reminder of the importance of environmental protection.
"Samara is a wonderful designer. She works hard, and always tries her best to submit
work that is thoughtful and professional," said Jennifer Seward, digital and media
arts faculty.
Bowman added, “I would just like to thank Jennifer Seward and Lana Taliaferro. Their
guidance, feedback, and mentorship have been a huge help to me throughout my college
experience. I hope my design will inspire people to strengthen their relationship
with the environment. I will graduate from National Park in a few weeks and am excited
to continue pursuing my passion for graphic design in the work field.”
