The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk baseball team (9-6-1) defeated Henderson
State University’s junior varsity team Monday, 9-7.
After falling behind, 7-0, through four and one-half innings, NPC erupted for seven
runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game. Sophomore center fielder Hunter
Guill (Bentonville) started the rally with a two-run single, followed by a grand slam
home run from freshman shortstop Que Walton (Atlanta, Georgia). Later in the inning,
sophomore right fielder drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, National Park College took the lead on an RBI fielder’s
choice from sophomore left fielder Jimbo Batchelor (Senoia, Georgia) and added its
ninth run of the game on a seventh inning solo home run from freshman first baseman
Spencer Sensley (Farmerville, Louisiana).
Freshman pitcher Jackson Reinhardt (Stuttgart) earned the win for the Nighthawks,
firing one scoreless inning in relief. Freshman pitcher Wesley Campbell (Fountain
Lake) got the start for NPC, allowing four runs on two hits with six strikeouts over
three and one-third innings. Freshman hurler Arthur Perez (Houston, Texas) earned
the save. At the plate, Sensley and Walton led NPC with two hits apiece in the win.
NPC plays host to University of Arkansas-Rich Mountain Thursday, February 29, beginning
at 2 p.m. at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. The game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
