Dear Nighthawk Family:

It is with a burdened heart that I address you concerning the recent tragic deaths in our country. I pray for the families, for justice, and for an end to racism and discrimination. I also pray that we, as a nation, would be willing to educate ourselves with a curriculum based on truth. The essential guiding principle in higher education is to unfailingly and tirelessly pursue the truth. The truth that we have the responsibility to honor and respect every human life. The truth that we are all so wonderfully unique and at the same time so beautifully alike. The truth that the senseless deaths we have witnessed have no place in today’s society.

At National Park College there is no tolerance for racism or discrimination, and we will challenge any instance of it on our campus. We are deeply committed to diversity and inclusion as spelled out in our strategic plan, our high priority objectives, and the aspirations and values by which we work. We are also committed to providing support to our students, faculty, and staff. Please reach out to Counseling Services (susan.millerd@np.edu | 501-760-4163) if you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

I am proud of the ways in which so many have come together, even here in Hot Springs and at National Park College, to show support for an end to racism and violence. Thank you for your commitment to uphold the values of human dignity and racial justice. Your unity during this most challenging time gives us all hope.

Best regards,

John Hogan, Ph.D.
