Industrial Fundamentals
This course is a study of basic industrial skills required in manufacturing environments
and allows you to attain core credentials in the NCCER system. This course will cover
manufacturing safety, trade math, hand tools, power tools, basic blueprints, and communication
and employability skills.
Introduction to Welding/SMAW
In this course, you will cover shop safety, tool and equipment identification, and
learn basic welding techniques in shielded arc metal welding, including cutting with
oxyfuel equipment, electrode classification, and testing welds using destructive and
non-destructive methods. The lab portion of the course will allow you to apply knowledge
from theory-based classes to practical exercises. This course covers the National
Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum for Welding Level
One.
GMAW (MIG Welding)
This course is designed for you to gain practical knowledge of MIG/Flux core Dual
Shield welding and associated tasks necessary for a Commercial/Industrial environment.
The course incorporates the principles of MIG welding, Oxygen/Acetylene cutting of
metals, preparation of various weld joints, and general welding test positions.
Enrollment Criteria
- Minimum eighth grade reading level
- Minimum eighth grade math level
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds
All programs in the Career Academy have three class periods available for enrollment.
In the event there are more applicants for a section than seats available, you will
be asked to choose an alternate period. If the section(s) are still over enrollment
capacity, students may be asked to submit an essay and participate in an interview
process.
The final determination will be at the discretion of the instructor and the center
director.
