NPC Minutes of the Board of Trustees Meeting
The National Park College Board of Trustees met in regular session on August 24, 2022, beginning at 3:30 PM. Trustees present were Larry Bailey, Mike Bush, Joyce Craft, Jim Hale, Bev Joe, Lance Porter, Forrest Spicher, and Raymond Wright.
Staff and faculty members present were Bill Allison, Jacynda Ammonds, Blake Butler, Samantha Christian, Wade Derden, Jessie Ellis, Kelly Embry, Tommy Finley, Roger Fox, Grant Gartner, Josh Gill, Michelle Godwin, Terri Helms, Nicole Herndon, John Hogan, Brad Hopper, Lisa Hopper, Jason Hudnell, Brian Kroening, Jennifer Lyons, Kurt Markish, Melony Martinez, Kenita McKenzie, Andrew Pennington, Scott Post, Nathan Ritter, Jonathan Rucker, Jennifer Smith, Darla Thurber, Steve Trusty, John Tucker, and Mike Wiles
Sam Stathakis of the Oaklawn Foundation was a special guest.
New employees and members of the 2022-2023 Nighthawks Soccer teams were introduced.
The media was notified of the meeting. Brandon Smith and Donald Cross of The Sentinel Record were in attendance.
Chair Forrest Spicher opened the meeting with a welcome. Trustee Porter provided the invocation.
Items for Action
- Trustee Bush made a motion to approve the June 22, 2022, minutes as presented. Trustee Hale seconded the motion, and the motion passed unanimously.
- Trustee Bailey made a motion to approve the May 2022 financial statements as presented by Kelli Embry, Vice President for Administration. Chair Spicher commented that a second is not necessary because the motion came from a committee. The motion passed unanimously.
- Kelli Embry presented the ratifications of personnel actions. Trustee Wright made a motion to approve the ratifications as presented. Trustee Joe seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
- Trustee Hale made a motion to approve Resolution 2022-G, naming the Oaklawn Foundation Science Labs in recognition of a $500,000 grant awarded to the College. Trustee Wright seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.
Items for Report
- Board Chair Report - Chair Spicher expressed gratitude to the Oaklawn Foundation for its continued support of NPC students, and noted its gift will have a lasting impact on student success.
- President’s Report - President Hogan welcomed the new employees and soccer teams. He then expressed appreciation to the Oaklawn Foundation for continuing to invest in NPC students and the community. President Hogan noted the funds will be used to fully equip at least two labs in Lab Science, as well as to invest in some significant security upgrades. Students will learn on the latest equipment on a campus that is more safe and secure.
There being no further business, Chair Spicher made a motion to adjourn, and Trustee Bailey seconded. The meeting adjourned at 4:13 PM.
