Presidential Transition Plan
The National Park College (NPC) Board of Trustees is sovereign and retains the final
authority and responsibility for the selection of NPC’s fifth president. The recommendations
herein are subject to the approval and endorsement of the NPC Board. As Board policy
prescribes, the Trustees will make the final selection.
The presidential transition team's main purpose will be to assist the Board of Trustees
through the Presidential selection process. This team will consist of a Trustee selected
by the Board Chair and NPC employees recommended by the President. Transition team
members will serve on the search committee.
The goals of the transition team include:
- Ensure the voice of the NPC community is heard
- Develop recommendations for the timeline, job description, profile, and posting
- Recommend additional members of the Presidential search committee
- Promote transparency in the transition and search process
- Provide search related documentation to the Board
- Validate that the hiring process meets all compliance, FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), and candidate privacy guidelines
- Facilitate effective succession to maximize the success of the new President as she or he assumes the role
- Assist the Board in whatever manner they deem important
Transition Team Activities

Pre-Search Activities
- Roundtable meetings for campus groups and community members to discuss Presidential
transition.
- The transition team will conduct roundtable meetings to help identify and communicate institutional issues, local or state challenges, emerging strengths, campus culture norms, and innovation opportunities. Equipping the Board and the incoming President with this knowledge will help build a foundation of trust and build upon NPC’s strong working culture.
- Roundtable meetings for campus groups and community members to discuss Presidential
transition.

Search Activities
- Assist with the selection of search committee members, organize candidate forums,
and serve on teams that will meet with the finalist candidates.
- The transition team may assist the search committee with a variety of tasks associated with the search process. Some of these tasks may include coordinating employee, student, and community forums for finalists, ensuring that a representative cross-section of the campus and community can participate in them.
- Assist with the selection of search committee members, organize candidate forums,
and serve on teams that will meet with the finalist candidates.

Post-Search Activities
- Assist in gathering what is needed to provide exceptional onboarding for the new President,
including welcome activities and events with campus employees, students, and the community.
- The transition team will assist with introducing the new President to the community, create a transition manual, offer suggestions for multi-media opportunities to get the new President in front of more stakeholders and help build excitement about the transition. The post-search goal of this team would be to build a solid foundation for a new President, assisting in relationship building with a variety of stakeholders and showing support for the incoming President.
- Assist in gathering what is needed to provide exceptional onboarding for the new President,
including welcome activities and events with campus employees, students, and the community.
Proposed Timeline
- November 2023
- Host roundtable meetings for campus groups and community
- Provide an initial report on transition team’s progress to the Board of Trustees at the November 29th regular Board meeting.
- December 2023
- Finalize Presidential Search Committee
- Finalize Presidential job posting, position profile, and community profile
- January 2024
- Board will convene in early January to approve recommendations for the job posting and profile, search committee members, and recruiting timeline
- Post President position (proposed posting dates - January 15th - February 29th)
- March 2024
- Search committee reviews and determines candidates for first round of interviews
- Search committee completes first round of interviews via Zoom
- Search committee recommends finalists for Board of Trustees’ consideration Board of Trustees reviews search committee’s recommendations and determines finalists
- Finalists are notified
- Finalists are announced on website and in press release
- April 2024
- Finalist interviews will include:
- Meeting with full Board of Trustees
- Meeting with Cabinet Members
- Employee Forum
- Community Forum
- Student Forum
- Transition team collects data from each forum and compiles information to report to the Board of Trustees
- Board of Trustees convenes in executive session to select final candidate
- Board Chair makes offer of employment the final candidate
- Finalist interviews will include:
- May 2024
- Press release announcing new President
- June/July 2024
- New President begins working at NPC
- July/August 2024
- President’s welcome activities
