NPC Academic Success Center Expectations

Tutoring sessions are drop-in, and students are served in the order of their arrival as tutors are available. One-on-one tutoring sessions will usually last from 30 minutes to an hour, and two rooms are available for students to work on homework before and/or after a tutoring session. A student’s time in the Academic Success Center may be limited if other students are waiting to be served.

What we expect from you, the student

Tutors expect that you will:

  • Attend each class/lab and arrive with a desire to learn!
  • Review course content and bring class materials (textbooks, class notes, calculator, etc.) with you.
  • Prepare specific questions, problems or concepts to work on ahead of time.
  • Attempt homework on your own before bringing it to a tutor for help; we cannot do homework for you.
  • Be aware of our positive learning environment and minimize noise, interruptions, food, cell phones, etc.
  • Be patient and considerate of each other’s needs and work as you will most likely be working with a tutor who is tutoring other students at the same time.

What you can expect from us, the tutors

Students can expect that we will:

  • Actively listen and ask clarifying questions.
  • Answer your questions to the best of our ability.
  • Be knowledgeable of other available resources to assist in your success.
  • Set clear expectations about the session and encourage you to be an independent learner.
  • Offer a positive attitude and be respectful of your diverse perspective and learning style.
