National Park College (NPC) convened a special meeting Thursday, where the Board of Trustees voted to authorize the College’s executive leadership team to begin formal exploratory discussions with the University of Arkansas (UA) System.
NPC President Dr. Wade Derden outlined the potential advantages of system affiliation, noting that alignment with the UA System could expand academic offerings, strengthen transfer pathways, and increase access to comprehensive institutional support services. He emphasized that joining a statewide network may provide additional legal, regulatory, and financial resources while enhancing NPC’s ability to participate in broader educational initiatives.
“Aligning with the University of Arkansas System would expand our institutional capacity while preserving the College’s local mission and commitment to serving our community,” Derden said.
Derden acknowledged NPC’s long history as a strong, independent institution, but noted that the increasingly complex regulatory landscape facing higher education has made system integration a more attractive strategic option. He said affiliation could offer operational efficiencies and long‑term advantages that support NPC’s continued success while maintaining its focus on students and the region.
