Four members of the National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-Region 2 Team this week for their outstanding efforts on the court this season.

Sophomore guard Hannah McLain (Cove) led NPC in rebounds (231) this season and currently ranks third all-time in rebounds in program history. Her 13-rebound performance in the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament Championship game helped propel the Nighthawks to their first NJCAA Central District Tournament appearance. Additionally, the sophomore ranks fourth all-time in blocks (27) and sixth all-time in steals (50) in her lone season at NPC.

Freshman guard Khayla Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) led NJCAA Region 2 in steals (74) while also serving as NPC’s leader in assists (125), free throws (65) and three-point percentage (32.3). She currently ranks third all-time in assists and steals and seventh all-time in free throws at NPC.

Freshman guard Khyra Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) was named NJCAA Region 2’s Most Valuable Player. As NJCAA Region 2’s leader in blocks (37), Khyra Garrett also led the Nighthawks in scoring (267) this season. She currently ranks second all-time in blocks, fifth all-time in assists (63) and steals (54), eighth all time in scoring and ninth all-time in free throws (59) at NPC.

Nighthawk head coach Eddie Broughton, Sr. was named NJCAA Region 2 Coach of the Year. Following last season’s early ending, Broughton’s Nighthawks rallied to the most single-season wins in program history (22), while setting marks for the largest margin of victory (59 points) and the fewest points allowed in a game (25 points) as NPC won its first regular-season championship and its first NJCAA Region 2 Tournament Championship.

NPC (22-5) will travel to North Central Missouri College for the NJCAA Central District Tournament Championship Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
