Six members of the National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk softball team were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-Region 2 Team this week for their outstanding efforts on the field this season.
Sophomore pitcher Bailee Cowell (Clarksville) was named to the All-Region 2 first team. The hurler amassed an impressive 17-9 record in the circle with a team-leading 142 strikeouts, a 3.00 ERA and the Nighthawks’ first perfect game in program history. Cowell ends her legendary Nighthawk career as the program’s all-time leader in wins (29), ERA (2.79) and saves (3).
Sophomore pitcher Gracie Fowler (Texarkana) was named to the All-Region 2 first team. Fowler recorded a 14-5 record in the circle with a 3.09 ERA and 73 strikeouts while earning the program's first National Pitcher of the Week honor. The sophomore ends her career ranked third all-time in wins (20), third all-time in saves (2) and fourth all-time in strikeouts (104).
Freshman right fielder Sara Camplain (Cabot) was named to the All-Region 2 second team. Camplain joined NPC's top 10 all-time list in triples (3) while batting .352 this season for the Nighthawks.
Freshman infielder/pitcher Maci Graves (Whitesboro, Texas) was named to the All-Region 2 second team. Graves joined NPC's top 10 all-time list in walks (24) and ERA (5.55) while batting .355 this year for the Nighthawks.
Freshman third baseman Bre Phillips (Conway) was named to the All-Region 2 second
team. Phillips led NPC in batting average (.362), runs (45), hits (59), doubles (16),
home runs (9), runs batted in (41), total bases (102), slugging percentage (.626),
hit by pitches (9) and on-base percentage (.478), while setting NPC’s single-season
record in walks (29).
Sophomore centerfielder Tayler Southern (Winnsboro, Louisiana) was named to the All-Region 2 second team. Southern set NPC's all-time triples (9) and single-season stolen bases records (43) this season while batting .310 for the Nighthawks. Southern ends her Nighthawk career ranked fourth all-time in runs scored (76), fifth all-time in runs batted in (50), fifth all-time in hits (100), fourth all-time in stolen bases (59), seventh all-time in doubles (16), eighth all-time in walks (28) and first all-time in games played (105).
NPC recently concluded its season in the NJCAA Central Plains District Tournament in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The Nighthawks finished tied for the most single-season wins in program history (34).
