Brooke Wyatt and Garrison Scully, both natives of Hot Springs, Arkansas, have been named School of Business Outstanding Graduates for 2025 by the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM). Wyatt and Scully are the first National Park College (NPC) students to receive this recognition, marking a significant milestone for the NPC-UAM partnership.

Wyatt, who will earn her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in May, grew up in Hot Springs and attended Fountain Lake Schools. "I had an incredible experience with teachers and coaches, some of whom I’m still in touch with today," she said. Her decision to pursue a business degree was driven by an interest in sales and presentations that began in high school. "Since my freshman year of college, I have been certain that a business degree was the right path for me, and that confidence has only grown throughout my studies," Wyatt explained.

Financial considerations played a significant role in Wyatt's decision to attend NPC. "Ultimately, I knew that setting myself up for success after graduation meant graduating debt-free, and attending NPC was the best way to achieve that goal," she said.

Wyatt attributes much of her success to the mentorship she received from her instructors, particularly Dr. Chuck Argo, Ashley Taylor, Dr. Samantha Christian, and Zane Shnaekel, who challenged her to think critically and understand her education more deeply. Additionally, Mary Whiting and Katelynn Hardage provided pivotal support throughout her college experience. She expressed gratitude for the program, stating, "This program has truly been a blessing in my life, and being part of the first cohort has been both memorable and exciting."

Wyatt's studies have helped her grow both personally and professionally. "Personally, I’ve expanded my knowledge not only within my degree program but also in other subjects that I may not have explored otherwise," she stated. Professionally, Wyatt has gained confidence in delivering presentations, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. She has also learned essential skills for managing a business, such as setting clear goals, budgeting, and analyzing market trends.

Wyatt received invaluable support from both NPC and UAM, from academic advising to financial assistance. Her studies have prepared her for the future by providing a comprehensive understanding of various business aspects and enhancing her time management skills. She emphasized the importance of strong communication skills stating, “Whether it's presenting ideas, negotiating, or collaborating with colleagues, effective communication is essential to success in any career."

To those considering enrolling in the program, Wyatt advises, "If you have a passion for business, I highly recommend this program. Both UAM and NPC are fully dedicated to the success and growth of this program, and with time and dedication, you'll succeed."

After graduation, Wyatt plans to pursue a career in business-to-business sales or logistics. "I’m excited to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my studies to these fields," she said.

Wyatt expressed her gratitude for receiving the award. "Receiving this award is a great honor, and it’s something I will cherish and remember for years to come," she said. She thanked UAM and NPC for recognizing her achievements and expressed her gratitude to Dr. Doss of UAM, Dr. Derden of NPC, Dr. Clayton of UAM, Ms. Lyons of NPC, and Mr. Shnaekel of NPC. Wyatt also thanked her family for their support and encouragement.

Scully, who will also earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from UAM, grew up in Hot Springs and attended Fountain Lake High School. "It was a fun time, and my best memories were made in the marching band there," he said. Scully decided to pursue a business degree for its flexibility and universality. "I have a degree that I can use almost anywhere and gives me lots of career options," he stated.

Scully chose NPC after trying a larger university and finding it did not suit him. "I wanted a more hometown feel and less expensive college experience," he explained.

Scully credits Mr. Jason Chism for having the biggest impact on his education. "His class changed the way I thought about the world and shaped the way I view it today," he said. Scully's experience at NPC has been wonderful. "I have received grade A instruction without the large class sizes and impersonal feel that comes with the bigger schools. The flexibility and responsiveness of the faculty have made it feel like everyone is working for my success," he said.

A memorable moment for Scully was his first semester at NPC in an American history class taught by Mr. Hodges. "He would use language and examples that made the history stick in my mind, and I can remember it four years later," Scully explained.

Scully received significant support from faculty members, teachers, and deans. "All faculty members have always been just an email away, even for the smallest questions that I have," he said. His studies have prepared him in many ways, enhancing his public speaking and critical thinking skills, allowing him to confidently present to large groups and analyze complex problems. From mock interviews to business plans, "I have what I need to be successful," he added.

After graduation, Scully plans to continue his education to get a graduate degree. "It is a great honor to receive this award. I have worked hard to succeed in this program, and having something to show for it feels like the hard work has paid off," said Scully. "I foresee my education giving me a competitive edge as an applicant in the workforce."

Both Wyatt and Scully have made the UAM Chancellor’s List each semester, an honor for full-time students who achieve a 4.0 GPA for the term. Their names and majors will be added to the outstanding graduate plaque outside the UAM Business School office, and they will receive an engraved gift and certificate from the School.

NPC Transfer Coordinator, Katelynn Hardage, said, “The NPC-UAM start here/finish here business degree started in the Fall of 2023 with seven students. Seven students worked hard to complete their two-year associate degree at NPC and jumped at the opportunity to stay on NPC’s campus to participate in the UAM bachelor's program. Brooke Wyatt joined this cohort in Spring 2023, and worked hard to catch up to the rest of the students by taking extra classes during the summer and fall semesters. All eight students were exceptional in this journey as they are now ready to walk across the stage to receive their Bachelor's through UAM in May.”

“I am so proud of all of the students in our first cohort, but especially proud of Brooke and Garrison for this great accomplishment. They have both worked so hard to complete their degrees with NPC and UAM. It has been an honor to work with them and a joy to watch their success over the last four years,” added Hardage.
