National Park College (NPC) held its annual Nursing and Health Sciences Honors Day last month, recognizing the dedication of students and the generosity of donors. The event highlighted nursing and health sciences students while distributing $158,480 in scholarships. A total of 185 scholarships were awarded, including six new scholarships from community organizations, private donors and NPC alumni.

This year's event not only celebrated student achievements but also featured a special presentation by Gretchen Lawrence from the Lawrence Respiratory Foundation. The Foundation awarded five "Professional Achievements in Respiratory Care" scholarships in memory of Mr. Paul Lowe, Respiratory Care Program Director, who tragically passed away over the winter break. Additionally, another scholarship was awarded in memory of the untimely death of a first-year registered nursing (RN) student, Jaycee Taylor by her grandparents.

Janice Ivers, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences, expressed her sincere appreciation for the ongoing support of donors. "Each year, we gather to celebrate the hard-earned accomplishments of our students," Ivers said. "This event also provides an opportunity to honor the generosity of our donors, whose dedication has made these scholarships possible."

"These scholarships not only offer crucial financial assistance but also serve as a powerful vote of confidence," she added. "They inspire our students to continue their education, knowing they have the unwavering support of a dedicated community behind them. We hope that the generosity of our alumni and donors will encourage our students to give back to their profession in the future."

The event showcased the wide range of nursing and allied health programs offered at NPC, such as Registered Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Health Information Technology, and Emergency Medical Services.

The Nursing and Health Sciences Honors Day stands as a testament to the commitment of faculty, staff, clinical partners, and donors, all of whom play a vital role in supporting students' academic journeys and empowering them to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare field.
