National Park College’s (NPC) Career Services hosted its inaugural Experience Expo Tuesday, Sept. 9, welcoming 184 NPC participants and 38 businesses and organizations for a day of exploration, networking, and opportunity. Held in the NPC Student Commons, the Expo connected students with internships, volunteer roles, and community engagement opportunities designed to build skills and career readiness.
Employer participation spanned a wide range of fields—from health care, education, and the arts to nonprofits, business, and technical trades. Organizations shared roles that allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world settings—many offering paid positions, academic credit, and pathways that can evolve into careers after graduation.
Jessica Ellis, director of Career Services, said the Experience Expo was designed to give students career-building opportunities earlier in their college journey.
“Students told us they wanted more ways to gain experience before graduation, and the Expo grew directly out of that need,” Ellis stated. “We wanted to give them meaningful opportunities in the fall semester that help them build resumes, explore career paths and refine their aspirations. Then, by the time they reach the Job Fair in the spring, they’re better prepared to step into the next stage of their professional journey. Career development isn’t something that happens at the end — it’s something students can build on throughout their time at NPC.”
Community partners echoed the event’s impact. Nicholas Freeman of Cooperative Christian Ministries and Clinic praised the collaborative atmosphere. “It was a fantastic event, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to connect with students and share CCMC’s mission,” Freeman noted. “Your work in bringing together local organizations, students, and community partners creates such a valuable space for networking and learning.”
For Allison Clark of Arkansas Learning Through the Arts, the experience was equally positive. “Campus staff were extremely helpful, and I enjoyed connecting with students” Clark shared. “A family friend is a student at NPC and he raved about the event from a student's perspective as well.”
Katelyn Beckwith, Career Services administrative assistant, emphasized the long-term value for students.
“Internships and volunteer experiences are where students start to apply what they’ve learned,” Beckwith explained. “These opportunities build confidence and skills—and the connections students make often lead to careers after graduation. Career Services is here to support them every step of the way.”
The event also featured prize drawings, including the Nighthawk Success Kit with a JBL speaker and NPC swag, adding to the high-energy atmosphere in the Commons.
The Experience Expo is set to become a signature annual event at NPC—connecting students to opportunities that build career readiness while deepening partnerships with regional organizations.
