Officers from National Park College’s (NPC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society chapter attended the Oklahoma/Arkansas (OK/AR) Regional Convention in Fort Smith last month. They were joined by faculty advisors Dr. Alexandra Barnard and Dr. Rebekah Robinette, who also serves as the OK/AR Regional Coordinator.
During the convention, students had the opportunity to hear from various speakers, explore a college transfer fair, and participate in team-building activities and a quiz bowl. At the awards luncheon, NPC’s chapter was recognized for placing in the top five for their write-up of the 2024 Honors In Action project, which involved scholarly research and campus service.
In addition to the chapter’s accolades, Robinette and Barnard were honored as a Distinguished Chapter Advisor Team. Robinette also received the Most Distinguished Continued Excellence Advisor award.
Barnard expressed her excitement, saying, “It's been fun learning about PTK over the past year and a half, seeing our students develop as scholars and leaders, and getting to know Dr. Robinette. I think we work well together, so it was rewarding to win an award as our chapter's advisor team.”
Robinette added, “As PTK advisors, we work extremely hard to develop our chapter and officers. We dedicate nights and weekends to ensure they receive as many opportunities for professional development as possible. It is gratifying that Dr. Barnard and I were recognized for our excellent teamwork. Dr. Barnard has contributed in many meaningful ways to our advisor team, and I am grateful to work with her. I am especially honored to have received the Continued Excellence Advisor award for my nearly nine years of devotion to advising our chapter and for my seven years as the regional coordinator for the Oklahoma/Arkansas Region.”
