The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s and women’s outdoor track and field
teams competed in the 2024 Hendrix Alumni Open Saturday, with sophomore runner Kaylie
Goad (Wharton, Texas) winning the third heat of the women’s 400m race and claiming
the top spot in the fourth heat of the women’s 800m race.
In the women’s 400m race, Goad took first in the third heat with a time of 1:02:39
for a 9th-place overall finish. Sophomore Chloe Sosa (Snyder, Texas) finished 16th
with a time of 1:10.56, while freshman Yanisel Martinez (Dallas, Texas) added an 18th-place
finish with a time of 1:18.59.
In the women’s 800m race, Goad finished first in the fourth heat, clocking in at 2:42.55
for a 21st-place overall finish. Sosa finished 28th overall with a time of 2:57.58,
while Martinez placed 37th with a time of 3:27.23.
Freshman runner Braiden Capel (Cabot) led NPC in the men’s 200m race, finishing 25th
with a time of 0:24.34. Freshman Cooper Johnson (Jessieville) added a 34th-place finish,
clocking in at 0:25.39.
In the men’s 400m race, Capel clocked in at 0:53.39 for 12th place overall, followed
by Johnson, who finished 15th with a time of 0:55.88.
The Nighthawk men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams return to action Saturday,
March 23 in the Dan Veach Invitational, hosted by Southern Arkansas University in
Magnolia.
