The No.1 ranked National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team (22-0)
won its first-ever meeting against Arkansas State University-Newport Monday in the
Kettle, picking up a 73-55 victory over the Aviators.
Before the game, National Park College President Dr. John Hogan was recognized for
his vision and dedication to Nighthawk Athletics.
Despite a cold shooting night from beyond the arc, NPC built a double-digit lead,
17-7, through the first six minutes and never looked back. Sophomore center Taylor
Harrell (Houston, Texas) led the Nighthawks from the opening tipoff with eight of
the team’s first 11 points and double-digit rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Sophomore
guard Patrick Punch (Houston, Texas) was hard to guard, providing nine first-half
points as National Park College soared to a 37-23 halftime lead.
NPC found its three-point rhythm in the second half, knocking down five treys and
chipping in seven-of-eight from the free throw line down the stretch. Sophomore forward
Nakavieon White and sophomore guard Keryn Collins (Dallas, Texas) led NPC with eight
points apiece over the final 20 minutes as the Nighthawks cruised to their 22nd victory—setting
the single-season wins record for National Park College.
Punch led the Nighthawks in scoring with 16 points. White and Collins added 15 and
10 points, respectively, while Harrell finished with eight points and 11 rebounds
in the win.
The Nighthawks celebrate Sophomore Night against University of Arkansas-Cossatot Thursday,
February 15 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
