The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (12-3) defeated Williams Baptist University’s junior varsity team Tuesday, 78-43.

Following a tight-knit first quarter, which resulted in the Nighthawks trailing by two points after 10 minutes, NPC established its rhythm in the second quarter and never looked back. Led by consistent scoring from freshman guard Khyra Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) and Hannah McLain (Cove), the Nighthawks overcame the deficit to take a 36-29 advantage at halftime.

Dominant defense paced NPC to victory in the second half, holding the Eagles to single-digit scoring in each of the final two quarters. McLain was difficult to defend in the paint, racking up 11 offensive rebounds. National Park College flexed its deep bench down the stretch, with freshman guard Ta’Keyla Williamson (Blevins) adding four field goals and four free throws, while freshman guard Daisy Dollar (Mena) added support from beyond the arc. Earning its 12th win of the season, NPC tied the program’s single-season wins record, set in the 2021-22 season.

Khyra Garrett led the Nighthawks in scoring with 17 points. McLain added 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Dollar and Williamson chipped in 12 points apiece. Freshman guard Khayla Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) finished with 10 points in the win.

The Nighthawk men and women travel to North Arkansas College Monday, January 13. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by men’s action at 7:30 p.m.
