The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (5-1) earned its fifth win of the season Friday, defeating Eastern Oklahoma State College, 78-29, in The Kettle.
Led by six first half points from freshman guard Khyra Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas), defense reigned supreme for NPC early, holding the Mountaineers to just one first quarter field goal while taking a 20-3 advantage. Eastern Oklahoma State College rallied briefly in the second quarter, cutting NPC’s lead in half, 26-13, heading into halftime.
NPC took charge out of the break, scoring 30 points in the third quarter and never looking back. Garrett remained hot in the second half, erupting for 14 points including two three pointers. Freshman guard Daisy Dollar (Mena) dazzled over the final two quarters, draining three treys. Defensively, Freshman guard Khayla Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) and freshman forward Aaliyah Hollins (Nashville) stifled the Mountaineers down the stretch, guiding NPC to a 55-30 win in the rebounding battle as the Nighthawks’ notched their third victory over an NJCAA Division I opponent.
Khyra Garrett led the Nighthawks in scoring with 20 points. Dollar added 16 points, while Khayla Garrett contributed 10 rebounds and nine points. Hollins finished with 11 rebounds and seven points in the win.
The Nighthawk women travel across town to face Champion Christian College’s junior varsity team Tuesday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m.
