The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (3-1) picked up its third win of the season Saturday, defeating Connors State College, 104-71, in the Lady Greyhound Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Arkansas State University Mid-South.
One day after receiving its first loss of the season, 59-46, to Mississippi Delta Community College, the Nighthawk women bounced back to avenge last season’s 58-point loss to the Cowgirls. Behind 25 points from freshman guard Ta’Keyla Williamson (Blevins), NPC rallied from a 21-17 first quarter deficit to a comfortable victory over its NJCAA Division I opponent.
In the second quarter, the Nighthawks pounded the paint with second-chance points, winning the rebounding battle and holding the Cowgirls to just 11 points en route to a 43-32 halftime lead. In the second half, the Nighthawks outscored Connors State College, 29-19, in the third quarter and erupted for 32 points in the fourth quarter to soar across the finish line.
Williamson led the Nighthawks in scoring with 25 points. Freshman guard Kishaliya Doss (Magnolia) added 16 points, while freshman guard Khayla Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) and freshman center Landrey Richardson (Grannis) finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman guard Parish Norfleet (Wichita Falls, Texas) added 10 rebounds and eight points in the win.
The Nighthawk women travel to Dallas College-Richland Wednesday, November 13 at 4:30 p.m. before returning home against Eastern Oklahoma State College Friday, November 15 at 5:30 p.m. Friday’s game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
