The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (6-1) defeated Champion Christian College’s junior varsity team Tuesday, 75-46.
Following a back-and-forth first quarter, which resulted in a 14-14 tie between the Nighthawks and Lady Tigers, NPC caught fire in the second quarter behind a dominant effort from sophomore forward Hannah McLain (Cove). Through a combination of second chance points on offensive put-backs and punishing drives in the paint, McLain and the Nighthawks soared to a double digit halftime lead, 34-24.
In the second half, NPC capitalized on defensive rebounding and forced turnovers to achieve victory. McLain remained hot on both sides of the basketball, while freshman guard Kishaliya Doss (Magnolia) recorded a season-high six steals to prevent Champion Christian College from establishing a rhythm. Freshman guard Daisy Dollar (Mena) padded the lead from beyond the arc with three treys as NPC extended its winning streak to four consecutive games.
McLain became the second Nighthawk in program history to record at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in a contest, finishing with 20 points and 21 boards. Dollar and Doss added 11 points apiece, while freshman forward Aaliyah Hollins (Nashville) chipped in 10 rebounds and six points in the win.
The Nighthawk women face Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma Friday, November 22 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a trip to Seminole State College in Seminole, Oklahoma Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. NPC returns home against No. 15 Dallas College-Richland Monday, November 25 at 5:30 p.m. Monday’s game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
