Nighthawks' Late Rally Ends In Draw

Ali Muganga dribbles ball down the field.

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s soccer team (3-6-2) played host to Hill College in its regular season home finale from Hot Springs World Class High School Sunday, resulting in a 4-4 draw.

In a tale of two halves, Hill College took advantage of Nighthawk miscues late in the first half to build a commanding lead. The Rebels lit up the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the match, followed by a three-score barrage in the final 11 minutes to lead, 4-0, after 45 minutes.

With their backs against the wall, the Nighthawks surged from behind to even the score in the second half. Six minutes into the period, freshman midfielder Lucas Story (Lavon, Texas) sparked the rally with a header into the net for a goal. Less than two minutes later, sophomore midfielder Kevin Quevedo (Katy, Texas) followed up with a line drive past the goalkeeper to cut the lead in half. Late in the match, sophomore back Ali Muganga (Nashville, Tennessee) helped the Nighthawks complete the comeback, with a well-placed header past two Rebels at the 16-minute mark, followed by the tying goal with 12:43 to play. Fueled by red-hot momentum, NPC continued its attack against the Rebels’ goalkeeper, but were unable to break through with the winning goal before time expired.

Nighthawk men’s and women’s soccer travels to face Crowder College Tuesday, October 22 in Neosho, Missouri, beginning at 2 p.m. The Nighthawks conclude the regular season Saturday, October 26 at University of Arkansas Cossatot, with the NJCAA Region 2 Championship on the line.
