The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s soccer team played to a 3-3 draw against Northwest Mississippi Community College Tuesday.
After allowing a quick Rangers goal in the first two minutes of the match, NPC (2-5-1) responded quickly, surging behind two goals from freshman striker Linberth Soriano (Cortes, Honduras), both assisted by sophomore striker Ali Muganga (Nashville, Tennessee), to take a 2-1 lead. The Nighthawks dominated the time of possession throughout the opening period, outshooting the Rangers, 15-3. Late in the first half, however, Northwest Mississippi Community College found the back of the net to send the match tied, 2-2, into halftime.
In the second half, NPC continued its offensive pressure, outshooting the Rangers, 7-3. With less than 16 minutes remaining in the match, sophomore striker Jack Avery (Brighton, England) scoring the go-ahead goal for NPC, assisted by Muganga. The goal, Avery’s fourth of the season, ties former Nighthawks Paulo Ndenzako and Felix Rocca for the most scores in Nighthawk history. NPC’s plans for victory would be spoiled late, however, as the Rangers pushed the equalizer through with less than two minutes to go, sending the match to a draw.
Freshman goalkeeper Tim Grahmann (Rudesheim am Rhein, Germany) recorded one save in the match.
National Park College face LSU Eunice Saturday, October 5 in Eunice, Louisiana at 3 p.m. The match will be streamed live by LSU Eunice.
