NPC Receives $25K Grant From Windgate Foundation

Windgate FoundationNational Park College (NPC) received a $25,000 grant from the Windgate Foundation last month. The grant will be used for need-based scholarships for up to $5,000 per year.

The Windgate Need-based Scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, and supplies spread out over the course of two semesters consecutively. Applicants for the scholarship must have a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 to qualify and must demonstrate a financial need.

“We are grateful for the generosity of the Windgate Foundation and their support for NPC students. This scholarship will reduce the financial pressure for students who are struggling so they can focus on being successful in the classroom,” said NPC Foundation Executive Director Nicole Herndon.

Herndon explained the importance of providing financial security for deserving students who want to graduate and give back to the community. “Providing support through financial aid means we are providing these same deserving students with the opportunity to excel. Perhaps more importantly, every student that receives a scholarship also receives a boost of confidence. It lets them know that someone believes they can be successful.”

“Our goal is to retain the best and brightest right here in our community. Every dollar toward a student’s education is an investment in our future workforce. Every dollar raised through the generosity of others is a dollar that has the potential to change a life, to alter the trajectory of a family for generations, and that is student success,” said Herndon.

More than 95% of NPC students receive some form of financial aid. Two-thirds of NPC students qualify for Title IV funds. Last year, NPC students received over $8 million in grants and scholarships.

“The need for closing the financial gap for our students is great. This grant enables us and our community to connect with our students and invest in their education so they can grow academically,” added Herndon.
