Against the Cougars Thursday, NPC fell behind early and could not catch up. Coahoma Community College surged to a 30-14 lead in the first quarter, forcing the Nighthawks to play from behind. Behind freshman guards Hope Thomas (Grady) and Kaylee Meredith (Dover), the Nighthawks outscored the Cougars, 19-17, in the second quarter, cutting the halftime deficit to 47-33.

NPC’s offense struggled in the second half, with Coahoma Community College capitalizing on Nighthawk turnovers to pad its lead. Unable to rally from behind, the Nighthawks could not overcome the deficit in defeat.

Thomas led the Nighthawks in scoring with 22 points, while Meredith finished with 16 in the loss.

In Friday’s action, history repeated itself in NPC’s second meeting against the Rangers in six days, with the Nighthawks unable to stop Northwest Mississippi’s high-powered offense. Shooting just 26.8 percent from the floor, National Park College fell behind and watched the game slip away early.

Trailing, 43-19, at the break, the Nighthawks’ offensive drought continued through the remainder of the contest, with NPC recording its fifth defeat of the season.

Thomas led the Nighthawks in scoring with 21 points, while Meredith finished with 13 in the loss.

The Nighthawk women return home Tuesday, November 28 against Labette Community College at 5 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.

The Nighthawk men face Missouri State University-West Plains in West Plains, Missouri Tuesday at 7 p.m.
