Eddie Broughton Sr. headshotNational Park College (NPC) Nighthawk Athletics announced its next head women's basketball coach this week.

Eddie Broughton Sr. will serve as the Nighthawks’ fourth head women’s basketball coach. Broughton joins NPC from Northeastern State University (NSU), where he served as assistant coach for the River Hawks last season. From 2016 to 2021, Broughton served as head women’s basketball coach at Western Oklahoma State College, where he led the Pioneers to multiple accomplishments—including the program’s first Division I signee, its winningest season in more than 15 years, its first playoff appearance in five seasons and its most conference wins in 15 years.

“From the moment I stepped on the NPC campus for the first time, I was hooked,” Broughton said. “On the basketball court, we’re going to execute, play hard and have fun doing it. Our goal is to win games, keep a great culture and graduate as many student athletes as possible. I’m looking forward to community service and getting into our local schools so they can see who we are and attract them to our games.”

Broughton played basketball at Southern Nazarene University and St. Gregory’s University, where he graduated with a double major in Marketing and Sports Management. He later earned a Master of Coaching and Exercise Science from Concordia University-Irvine.

“Eddie has coached in numerous college ranks for more than 17 years, and in the NJCAA for most of that time,” NPC Athletic Director Rich Thompson said. “We are excited to bring that wealth of experience to our women’s basketball program and give our young ladies a great experience here at National Park College.”

Broughton succeeds Dominique Battles, who served as head coach for two seasons. NPC finished 9-15 last season, falling in the first round of the NJCAA Region II tournament.
