The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks softball team (12-6) swept its series against
Williams Baptist University’s junior varsity team at Majestic Park Thursday, taking
a 9-1 win in game one and delivering a 14-0 no-hit victory in the series finale.
In game one, NPC got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single from sophomore
left fielder Shelbee LeJeune (Maurice, Louisiana) and an RBI groundout from freshman
first baseman Reagan Torres (Fort Worth, Texas). After the Eagles got on the board
in the second inning, freshman catcher Gracie Redmon (Benton) responded with a two-run
homer—her third of the season—to extend NPC’s lead. The Nighthawks added three runs
in the third and two runs in the fifth to secure their 11th victory.
In the circle, sophomore hurler Kacey Solida (Texarkana) earned her second win of
the season, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts through five innings.
Redmon and freshman shortstop Logan Nies (Rockwall, Texas) collected two hits apiece
in the win.
Sophomore pitcher Jadyn Hart (Magazine) was masterful in game two, notching her 17th
career victory to surpass former Nighthawk Sarah Todd’s all-time wins mark and delivering
her first no-hitter—NPC’s second of the past two weeks—in a 14-0 victory.
After jumping on the Eagles early with an RBI double from Redmon in the bottom of
the first inning, NPC blew the game open in the second with six runs across. NPC padded
its lead with two runs in the third and five runs in the fourth inning, capitalized
by Nies’ three-run home run. In the top of the fifth inning, Hart induced a groundout
and struck out the final two batters to seal the historic win.
Hart struck out nine in the no-hitter and was two NPC errors away from recording the
program’s first perfect game. Nies finished two-for-three at the plate with a three-run
home run and four RBI in the win.
NPC hosts the inaugural Nighthawk Round Robin tournament March 2-3 at Majestic Park.
Featuring Navarro College, Allen County Community College and Northwest Mississippi
Community College, the Nighthawks play host to Allen County Community College and
Navarro College at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively Friday, March 3rd. The games will
