Nighthawks Split With Stars

Pitcher Jaden Lewis winding up his pitch.The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk baseball team (8-12) split its NJCAA Region II series against South Arkansas Community College Monday, cruising to an 8-0 victory in the opener and falling, 13-0, in the finale.

Sophomore pitcher Jaden Lewis (Tyler, Texas) threw a gem in game one, holding the Stars scoreless on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five.

NPC launched three home runs on the day. Freshman shortstop Bryson Sellier (Houston, Texas) hit a two-run shot in the second inning, while sophomore third baseman Eli Hutcherson (Cabot) went yard in the sixth inning. Later in the sixth inning, sophomore designated hitter D’Angelo Hinojosa (Houston, Texas) smacked a two-run homer to ice the game for NPC.

Hinojosa, Sellier and freshman right fielder Jimbo Batchelor (Senoia, Georgia) led NPC at the plate with two hits apiece in the win.

South Arkansas Community College flipped the script in game two, jumping out front early and never looking back. The Stars dissected NPC pitching early, plating six runs in the second inning, followed by a three-run third inning. Later in the game, the Stars padded their lead with three runs in the fifth inning and one final run in the seventh inning to even the season series at two games apiece.

NPC mustered just three hits in the loss. Sophomore pitcher Silas Cowgill (Texarkana) got the start for NPC, allowing five runs on two hits over one inning.
