The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s soccer team (12-2-3) ended its season
Friday in the NJCAA Central District semifinal, falling to the St. Louis Community
College Archers, 3-1.
Battling windy weather, both the Nighthawks and Archers struggled establish their
respective offenses early. St. Louis Community College broke the stalemate at the
14-minute mark, taking a 1-0 lead that would hold for the remainder of the first half.
Early into the second half, sophomore left back Patrick Chan (Sydney, Australia) scored
the equalizer, knotting the match at 1-1. St. Louis Community College struck again
at the 74-minute mark, taking the lead for good. Held in check by the Archers’ defense,
NPC managed just one more shot on goal down the stretch, but was unable to even the
score. With three minutes remaining, the Archers iced the match with a goal on a penalty
kick to end NPC’s historic season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Stafford (Cape Coral, Florida) amassed two saves in the
loss for NPC.
