Nighthawk Basketball Earns All-Region Honors

Five members of the National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s and women’s basketball teams were named to the 2022-23 NJCAA Division II All-Region team this week for their outstanding performance on the court this season.

NPC Nighthawk India Atkins with fist in air celebrating.For the Nighthawk women, sophomore guard India Atkins (Bryant) was selected to the All-Region first team. Atkins led the Nighthawks in scoring this season, boasting a program-best 19.4 points per game, while shattering NPC’s single-season scoring record (446). Atkins also led the Nighthawks in assists (56), while setting the single-season steals record (90). Atkins set the single-game steals record (9) in a 117-58 win over Blue Mountain College and turned in an impressive double-double with 30 points and 15 rebounds in a 58-53 win over Shorter College this season.

Atkins concludes her historic NPC career as the all-time leader in points scored (976), rebounds (265), three-pointers (77), free throws (215), assists (142) and steals (172).

Sophomore guard Amaya Coakley (Killeen, Texas) was named to the All-Region second team. In her secondAmaya Coakley dribbling the basketball. season with NPC, Coakley averaged 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, finishing second on the team in points scored (225). Coakley ends her NPC career second all-time in steals (83) and third all-time in points scored (473).

“I’m proud of the amazing achievements of all our All-Region honorees,” NPC Athletic Director Rich Thompson said. “India has led the women’s team for multiple seasons and now carries a multitude of National Park College records. She represents the Nighthawks in an exceptional way every day. Amaya had an amazing year on the court and gave the Nighthawk women a chance to win every time they hit the court.”

Averaging 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, White led the Nighthawks in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks this season, while boasting a 51.6% field goal shooting percentage. White also set NPC’s single-season records for assists (141), steals (47) and blocks (49). White set the single-game assist record (14) in NPC’s season opener and tied the record again later in the year in NPC’s first-ever triple double, finishing with 22 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds in a 111-84 win over Central Baptist College’s junior varsity team.

Averaging 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, Grimes recorded a 48.8% field goal shooting percentage this season and finished second on the team in blocks (30). Averaging 13.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, Punch finished second on the team in points scored (348) with a 49.6% field goal shooting percentage, while also recording a 76.1% free throw shooting percentage.

Quinntez is an athletic forward that shows his great play on the court and is a spark plug for our offense with powerful dunks. Patrick has shown amazing athletic ability to jump out of the gym and lead the team on the court. We are proud of all of our All-Region selections and their coaches’ leadership.”
