The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (0-3) dropped its
home opener against Champion Christian College’s junior varsity team Monday, falling
to the Tigers, 65-45.
Led by 19 first-half points, including five treys, from freshman guard Hope Thomas
(Grady), NPC overcame an early deficit to take a 31-29 lead at halftime.
Through a combination of timely three-pointers and free throws, Champion Christian
thrived in the second half, outscoring NPC, 23-6 in the third quarter to regain the
lead for good. The Nighthawks sputtered, offensively, with Thomas held to just two
points over the final 20 minutes. Freshman guard Amya Snowden (Arkadelphia) added
eight points down the stretch, but was unable to help NPC overcome the deficit.
Thomas led the Nighthawks in scoring with 21 points, while Snowden finished with 15
in the loss.
