Nighthawk Women Stumble In West Memphis

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (0-2) fell in the ASU Mid-South Lady Greyhound Classic over the weekend, taking a 106-48 loss to Connors State College Friday and losing a 64-36 decision to Northwest Mississippi Community College Saturday.

Against the Cowgirls Friday, the Nighthawks did not have an answer to Connors State’s high-powered offense, falling behind, 25-9, in the first quarter and never catching up.

Trailing, 56-21, at halftime, the Nighthawks shooting woes continued throughout the second half, preventing a rally to turn the tide.

Despite the deficit, the Nighthawks found a spark in freshman guard Kaylee Meredith (Dover) who knocked down six three-pointers off the bench.

Meredith led the Nighthawks in scoring with 20 points, while freshman guard Hope Thomas (Grady) added 11 points in the loss.

Against Northwest Mississippi Community College Saturday, the Nighthawk offense was held in check by the Rangers, who allowed just 10 field goals in the contest.

Trailing, 31-19, at halftime, NPC was unable to put together consistent scoring down the stretch, falling for the second time this season.

Meredith led the Nighthawks in scoring with 14 points, including four three-pointers, in the loss.

The Nighthawk men celebrate “Lakers Night” at home against Central Baptist College Tuesday at 7 p.m. NPC will wear classic green and gold uniforms and don the Lakers moniker in honor of its previous team identity, the Garland County Community College Lakers. The game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.

The Nighthawk women play host to Champion Christian College’s junior varsity team in the Kettle tonight at 5:30 p.m.
