The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk women’s basketball team (4-7) took a tough road loss over the weekend, falling to Murray State College, 68-45, Friday.
In its first game in more than three weeks, NPC struggled to knock down shots early, amassing just six first-quarter points. Against tough defense from the Aggies, the Nighthawks’ shooting woes continued throughout the first half, resulting in a 33-16 halftime deficit.
The Aggies kept their momentum in the second half, outscoring NPC, 15-10, in the third quarter. Despite NPC’s 19-point fourth quarter rally, led by sophomore guards India Atkins (Bryant) and Amaya Coakley (Killeen, Texas), the Nighthawks were unable to turn the tide in defeat.
Atkins and Coakley led NPC in scoring with 13 points apiece, with Coakley adding 12 rebounds in the loss.
The Nighthawk women play host to University of Arkansas Cossatot Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m. to begin NJCAA Region II play. The Nighthawk men return to action against Lang Prep Tuesday, January 10 at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
