The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s and women’s soccer teams split their
matches against Crowder College Wednesday, with the women falling, 4-0, and the men
earning a 2-0 victory.
In the opener, the Nighthawk women (1-7-1) struggled to contain Crowder College’s
fast-paced offense, resulting in a 3-0 deficit at halftime. With its only second-half
miscue being an own goal early in the period, NPC’s defense fared much better down
the stretch, keeping the Roughriders off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.
Offensively, however, the Nighthawks could not dissect Crowder’s goalkeeper, resulting
in their second-consecutive loss.
In men’s action, NPC (9-0-2) outlasted Crowder College’s tough defensive front to
remain undefeated. Despite multiple shot attempts early in the first half, the Nighthawks
could not convert, resulting in a scoreless contest at halftime. Late in the second
half, NPC broke the stalemate on freshman winger Paulo Ndenzako’s (Memphis, Tennessee)
team-leading 10th goal of the season, assisted by sophomore left back Patrick Chan
(Sydney, Australia). Freshman midfielder Irvin Martinez (Katy, Texas) padded NPC’s
lead two minutes later with an unassisted strike into the top left corner of the net,
propelling the Nighthawks to their ninth win of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Stafford (Cape Coral, Florida) picked up four saves in the
victory.
National Park College plays host to Dallas College-Mountain View Sunday, October 8
