The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s and women’s soccer teams competed
against Dallas College-Mountain View Wednesday, with the women securing a 1-1 draw
and the men defeating the Lions, 5-2.
Hot off their first win of the season, a back-and-forth defensive battle ended in
a draw for the Nighthawk women (1-6-1). After allowing a quick goal in the first 10
minutes, NPC responded with the equalizer at the 15 minute mark from freshman striker
Emily Gorrell (Tulsa, Oklahoma), assisted by sophomore midfielder Jada Hammett (Little
Rock). NPC continued attacking on offense throughout the remainder of the contest,
attempting 10 additional shots on goal, but could not get past the Lions’ goalkeeper,
resulting in a draw.
In men’s action, NPC (8-0-2) rode a hat trick from freshman winger Paulo Ndenzako
(Memphis, Tennessee) to overcome a late Lions rally, earning its eighth victory of the season. The Nighthawks sprinted
to a 3-0 advantage in the first 20 minutes behind goals from Ndenzako and sophomore
winger Noal Searl (Merthyr Tydfil, Wales). The Lions would not go away quietly, however,
squeaking in a goal with four minutes to play in the first half and a second goal
right out of the gate in the second half to bring the match within one goal, 3-2.
Ndenzako padded NPC’s lead down the stretch, firing two additional goals over the
final 25 minutes to keep NPC undefeated on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Luke Berry (Manchester, England) picked up one save in the victory.
NPC women’s soccer plays host to Dyersburg State College Saturday, September 30 at
Munro Soccer Complex in Hot Springs, beginning at 4 p.m. The Nighthawk men return
to action Wednesday, October 4 against Crowder College, beginning at 6 p.m.
