The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk softball team (16-10) swept Central Baptist College’s junior varsity team Friday, picking up an 8-0 victory in game one and earning a 2-0 victory in the finale.
In the opener, NPC found all the offense it needed in the first inning, plating eight runs. After freshman first baseman Reagan Torres (Fort Worth, Texas) started the scoring with a bases-loaded walk, the Nighthawks lit up Mustangs pitching with RBI singles by freshman right fielder Aubree Goodnight (Benton), freshman second baseman Reagan White (Carrolton, Texas) and sophomore designated player Jadyn Hart (Magazine), followed by a fielder’s choice from freshman third baseman Katie Branch (Waco, Texas) and a double by freshman shortstop Logan Nies (Rockwall, Texas) to cap the big inning.
Sophomore pitcher Kacey Solida (Texarkana) picked up her third win of the season, allowing just four hits with two strikeouts over five innings in the complete game victory. White led NPC in hitting, finishing three-for-three at the plate.
NPC blanked the Mustangs in game two, with runs in the second and third innings to seal the series sweep. Sophomore first baseman Abigail Pittman (Jonesboro) knocked a solo home run in the second inning, while White came in to score on an error in the third inning.
Freshman pitcher Makenna Keeton (Morrilton) went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits with six strikeouts in the complete game victory. Goodnight, White and Pittman each finished two-for-three at the plate to lead NPC in hitting.
NPC plays host to Southern Arkansas University Tech to open NJCAA Region II play in a double header Tuesday, March 14 beginning at noon at Majestic Park. The games will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
