The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk baseball team (4-6) dropped two games to
Arkansas Tech University’s junior varsity team (ATU) Thursday, falling, 11-7, in game
one and 19-9 in the series finale.
Fueled by a fourth-inning three-run double from freshman shortstop Bryson Sellier
(Houston, Texas), NPC jumped out to a 5-1 lead in game one. After ATU evened things
up, 5-5, in the bottom of the fifth inning, NPC took advantage of a fielding error
and a hard ground ball to center field from sophomore first baseman Cameron Tyson
(Cullen, Louisiana) to regain the lead, 7-5, in the sixth inning. In the bottom of
the sixth inning, however, the Wonder Boys rallied for six runs, taking the lead for
good.
Sophomore pitcher Myles Anderson (Houston, Texas) got the start for NPC, allowing
two runs on three hits with three strikeouts over three and one-third innings. Tyson
finished three-for-five at the plate in the loss.
NPC fell behind early in the nightcap, allowing nine runs in the bottom of the first
inning. Despite scoring five runs in the top of the third inning, the Nighthawks weren’t
able to keep up, falling for the sixth time this season.
Freshman right fielder Evan Grissom (Mount Pleasant, Texas) led NPC at the plate,
finishing two-for-three in the loss.
The Nighthawks play host to Henderson State University’s junior varsity team in a
double header at Majestic Park Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The games will be streamed
live on the Nighthawk Network.
