The 20th-ranked National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team (6-0)
remained undefeated this week, defeating Central Baptist College’s junior varsity
team Tuesday, 114-83.
Dressed in throwback green and gold jerseys to honor NPC’s former identity, the Garland
County Community College Lakers, the Nighthawks took control early against the Mustangs
and never looked back. Behind three treys apiece from sophomore guard Patrick Punch
(Houston, Texas) and sophomore forward Nakavieon White (Odessa, Texas), NPC surged
to a 57-45 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, sophomore guard Ja’Bryant Hill (Dallas, Texas) passed Kam
Vick to become NPC’s all-time leader in steals. Throughout the final 20 minutes, Punch
erupted for 25 points, including five additional triples to become NPC’s single-game
three-point leader. Freshman guard Colen Thompson (Conway) added 11 second-half points
off the bench and the Nighthawks cruised to victory in front of a packed home crowd
in the Kettle.
Punch led the Nighthawks in scoring with 36 points. Sophomore forward Anthony Swift
(Las Vegas, Nevada) added 14 points, while White and Hill finished with 13 and 12
points, respectively. Thompson added 11 points in the win.
