The National Park College (NPC) Marine Technology program received two brand-new Mercury
OpiMax motors this month. The Mercury Marine Corporation donated 150 and 225-horsepower
engines with stands which were delivered to campus last month. The donation is valued
at $34,765.
NPC Marine Repair Technology instructor, Delmar Hunter said, “We love getting new
engines in. Gives us a chance to prep our students on the engines that are out there
that they will be working on. We were missing some Mercury products. These engines
will help us get our students trained on computer diagnostics and prep them to go
to work at Mercury dealers.”
Hunter said the donation came about because he keeps in touch with many marine product
vendors. He said he answers their calls even if it is late at night.
“We get a lot of support from our manufacturers. You can look around and see we have
tons of new engines. Really, this industry is probably one of the strongest supporters
of the College of any industry around. They donate all the time because they need
trained technicians, so we’re really fortunate for that. It’s a good partnership,”
Hunter added.
Marine Technology student Blake McGlaughn added, “It’s nice having new engines to
work on. It gives us more variety to learn on.”
